The first Champions for Children Cocktail Reception and Silent Auction will be held at Mo’s…A Place for Steaks at 1801 Post Oak Boulevard in Houston on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 from 6:00 – 9:00 PM.
The event will benefit Texas Center for the Missing and Houston’s Regional Amber Alert. Since inception December 7, 2000, Houston’s Amber Alert has issued 95 alerts for 114 children and has enjoyed a 94% successful recovery rate!
CEO, Beth Alberts says, “The Amber Alert is a voluntary and privately funded program. Very few people are aware that there are no municipal, state, or federal dollars dedicated to support our Amber Alert, or the other critical prevention programs we offer.”
The Texas Center offers internet safety education for children and parents, child abduction prevention, Amber Alert training, and more. The website is: www.thetexascenter.org and contains safety tips and other useful information.
This year’s event will honor Lt. Murray Smith of the Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division, who has provided critical leadership for the creation of the Texas Center’s Child Abduction Response Team and important law enforcement training programs.
Tickets are $100 each and sponsorships are still available. For more information contact Beth Alberts at 713.409.2720 or via email at support@tcftm.org. |
